RITE: David Hartman Homage by Grimbro RITE: David Hartman Homage by Grimbro
Thought I would mix it up a bit. Being gone for over a week I have an overwhelming urge to post something. Since I just got off a plane a couple of hours ago, I will submit this piece from awhile back. It is of David Hartmans RITE Character.

I had the great pleasure of ordering Davids Art of SideShowmonkey book back in March. (Actually my fantastic wife gave it to me as a gift)
3 things hit me right away:
1) The book looks amazing the quality is top notch
2) Because my wife ordered from Sideshowmonkey.com I got a custom sketch from Dave, of a Zombie, which she requested, (Seriously I would order another book just to get the sketch) on the inside jacket of the book
3) I got a copy of this comic called RITE
I love the comic and the character and I immediatly wanted to do some piece to celebrate it. I was looking to do a piece in ZBrush 2 so here it is.
Now go to Davids deviant page [link] goto his website www.sideshowmonkey.com buy the freakin book you will not regret it

Enjoy

Rite is awesome!
but some aspects in his form are tricky to notice: he hasn't a "mask". That is actually his skin and that brown back part of the head, is a hood. Thats why we don't see his ears in the comic book. The hood is attached to his face by "hair butterflys"(dunno the name in english) some kind of plastic things that girs use to hold the hair. His skin is gelatinous thats why is easy to attach the hood to the face. I had this explanation by Dave himself =D
Great work on Zbrush though! I like seeing realistic versions of cartoony characters!

Wow, I love the textures on this piece. It looks like I can actually feel the weave on those bandages. I think I want out ZBrush!

The color work is done in Zbrush too? Crazy modelling skills.

Hey Arty,

I guess this does need a bit of clarifying. 95 % of the work was in Zbrush 2. The background and color was applied in PAinter. With Zbrush you get such insane detail that, really, color is mostly done in tinting. Oh and the tinting in painter was done with an amazing plug in for Zbrush 2 called Zmapper which allows me to easily work back and forth from Zbrush to Painter

Cheers

Check that, the plugin is ZApp. not Zmapper
