I have worked in the video games industry for 16 years and it has been a rough ride. I have met some amazing talented people and made some really good friends. But I really don't have much to show as far as critical or financial success. Not to mention the industry is very unstable and two year cycles of upheaval is common place. I am proud of the work I have done but I am also fed up and exhausted. I really feel it is time for me to seek out other things. So I am going to try my hand at freelance and see if I could possibly make a living off my art.

I am open to suggestions and to critiques. Do you want me to sell prints on DA? is there any interest at all? Would anyone be interested in a new book? Would anyone like to collaborate? T-shirts? Skateboards? Freelance? Commissions?

I am just curious if anyone is even still following my work. :)

In the coming days/weeks I will be posting more and I am really interested in what people think. I am sure this is one of the most asked questions on DA but I will ask it again, anyone have any good thoughts or resources on breaking out on your own?

I would really like to hear them
Thanks for stopping by.
Cheers
Grimmy

Its a brave new world brotha.

Take it as it comes, and don’t say "NO" to any opportunity.
Take your time, have faith in yourself, and keep pressing forward.

Never knew you were into the gaming industry with your art. I mainly followed you for just a few works of yours that I liked.

Finding people interested in your work for freelance isn't the hard part, really. In my opinion, as an amateur, it's finding people interested who are actually willing to pay and able to pay. 70% of the time people offer you empty promises like "I'll totally make a lot of money after I use you and you'll get paid a bunch!" and those never work out. Try looking around indiedb or moddb.com. :)

I don't suppose you worked for 38 Studios, did you? The reason I ask is I noticed you're from New England, and you mentioned working in the video games industry. It's been pretty big news here in RI since the company folded. I imagine a lot of artists who worked for that company feel a lot like you do. I think you're very talented and you could do really well freelancing. I would try and do some comic cons and horror conventions. I think your work would be very welcome at either of those venues. Chin up, I worked in product design for almost 10 years before I started freelancing and trying to get my work out to the public. I think you'll do fine. :)
Best of luck,
Glen

I could really see you doing a line of skateboard and t-shirt designs. You could do a few throwaway designs for zazzle.com and get a few made for show to get the word out. I'd buy a deck for display.
