13 Nights of Halloween 2013 Mighty Joe Young

13 Nights of Halloween 2013, gives us the gentle giant, Joe, from the 1949 production of Mighty Joe Young. This was Harryhausen's 1st major motion picture. He was hired on by Willis O'Brien, creator of King Kong, as an assistant animator. Many assume that Harryhausen's work was so good O'Brien allowed him to do the lions share of work. What so impresses me about this film is the amount of personality Harryhausen brought to this gorilla. You believed in Joe, he had an immense amount of expression and personality. And the kindest heart, willing to put others above himself. I tried to convey that in the painting with Joe saving the burning orphanage
